He is used to being overlooked by others, he was born that way his parents would tell him and he just fell into the role of a helpful background character. However, considering how his life has been, Itzal is a somewhat cheerful stallion that has a good outlook on life. Others may see this as innocent foolishness but he is far from innocent. He has done many things that still affect him today, he is reserved about parts of his life because of that. Itzal figures that whatever happens in the future happens in the future so he enjoys life as it is, something fragile that can break in an instant but also something that hangs by a thread, unwilling to snap from the source.
History ::The eager stallion started out from regal roots; Itzal's dam and stallion came from lines of prideful horses who have done many great things to contribute to the community they lived in. Therefore, the pressure to do something important, to be someone important was looming over his little head. Itzal was born with an older brother, them being the exact opposites from birth. His parents could see that his brother, Gabrel, was a certain leader in great things, while Itzal, well he was normal, a shadow even. That was the origin of his name, Itzal, a shadow. He spent the buddings of childhood as a quiet character, not being in the way because it seemed to help him; nobody scolded him for doing something wrong when he was only rough-housing with his brother, nothing broke because some older member didn't see him, nobody had to be bothered by his presence.
Most of Itzal's childhood was absent of his biological parents but two others of his herd seemed to take pity on the little foal and tried to guide him to a good life, for an overlooked character of course. He was not a pure little foal who loved everybody, he did resent Gabrel for keeping their parent's attention effortlessly but seeing how his elder loved him so and was a big part in his life he was soon relieved of such childish jealousy and tried his best to be a brother who was there when needed. Although he was just a few months younger, Itzal was the much smaller of the two and so Gabrel took to looking after his"little shadow: and picked off where their parents left off.
Although neglected by the elders or "those who took part in the well being of the herd" Itzal was a dashing yearling who, although not reaching to his parents standard of perfection, did well in many of his conquests. He was still a young one but he wasn't as quiet as before, he opened his doors just a crack. He had a few friends, some trusted just a bit more than others and his elder brother was still a positive influence in his life, although a bit busier due to his duties as the future leader. This period of his life could be called a a smooth time, on the outside at least. Even though he was slightly happy his mind held many fears that overcame him during the night. Most nights the young one could be found somewhere slightly away from the herd, somewhere he could truly be by himself to calm his thoughts. That was where an elder, a highly respected one as well, by the name of Yeldui found him one night, his spiritual thoughts were developed by her and soon the fear was easier to control. Due to Yeldui being around Itzal and sharing her teachings he was finally recognized as the second heir to the herd, but was still overlooked by many.
Life was not perfect for him but it was livable; Itzal learned to not just watch as things happened, he helped and succeeded, without any acknowledgement from others. He had friends and family, well his brother at least, that kept him happy, kept his fears at bay. Everything seemed peaceful, or at least had many times of happiness for him, that was until his father changed. Or maybe it was show his true self to him after all the times of stoic ignoring but his father apparently had use for him and the day the king of that herd called him Itzal's life changed for the worse. When he looks back on this point he realizes, maybe Gabrel faced this as well, maybe that's why he looked at me so sadly while the young stag galloped to their father so happily.
His unnamed father(maybe he'll appear later on) had shown his dark, twisted personality, Itzal had loved him, and so he stayed, doing as he was told, at least when he could. "You shall become a shadow, just like your name, twisting with your dark soul while the light remains untainted, like I have," his mind reminds him of that in his dazes, through all his wounds and scars that was what hurt him the most. His punishment for not succeeding in his tasks was to get hurt, in a harder task or by his father. However throughout this nobody could see what caused his sudden decline in emotions, his unexplained scars from "rough-housing", but they still cared, they still looked out for him in their own ways.
He did these missions for "the good of the herd" for the good of his herd he became a shadow that killed, tortured, deceived and gave up his naive soul. Itzal's connections to the world slowly gave up trying to understand his sudden disappearances, wounds that grew more and more dire, they all just couldn't understand and he was happy, they didn't know about the darkness that seeped into his life. Well, almost everyone gave up, Gabrel would not have his little brother sink into this...this whatever it was that kept him from being happy. His elder brother did everything he could to cheer his brother up, when he could be with him, which was not often. Although Gabrel knew of his father's "harshness" he did not know the extent his brother suffered, he was to be kept away from Itzal, father's orders, but still snuck away to visit his little brother once in a while.
Now some may wonder where their mother was in all this, well she wasn't dead, just compliant to her husband. She showed some compassion for her children in front of the herd but she really wasn't the nurturing type and didn't seem to care about them, maybe she cared for Gabrel a bit but didn't show it. At least that was what it seemed like at that time. Their mother, Maidilade, knew of her husband's many mistresses but kept to herself and acted as the innocent one being strung along due to her adoration.
His life was like that for a long time, or what seemed like it, however one day was different, one day caused him to leave the wretched herd and become a loner. In just one day his father killed his elder brother in a fit of madness in front of all the others in his herd, attacking Itzal. Nobody could react fast enough, Gabrel was dead and Itzal severely injured. Nobody seemed to see Maidilade etching closer to the two, finally stepping in the way of the two left. Itzal's father smashed into the frail mare, throwing her back but using up enough time for Itzal to move away. The herd finally attempted to stop their insane leader screeching at the two injured to run, that they'll get them when he's controlled, so they both did, until exhaustion caught up with them. Maidilade did not make it for much longer after that, her thin body was too damaged, so she left to join her son with the last words of, "I love you my dear little shadow, shadow that, no mattered how trampled on, remains strong, untainted. Keep away from him, be safe my dearest little son, " finally showing that she really loved her sons. After that he ran, became a loner, and ended up wandering around the tribes.
