Personality ::Though many would think otherwise, Zara is a tough, brave filly. With her rough life the young foal has developed a headstrong, independent personality and is capable of taking care of herself. Zara is far from shy, though she is cautious and tends to be suspicious of stallions. The filly is smart and has the ability to think of unique ways to get out of all kinds of situations. She is by no means a quitter and uses her smaller size, strong feet and Kiger endurance to outwit predators and other obstacles. She’s learned to be sneaky and stealthy to survive, depending only on herself. However the filly is lonely and has a tendency to get overly attached to anyone that shows her a little bit of kindness. Zara longs for her mother still and wishes to find a warm, safe place to live.
Zara loves the snow, she’s mesmerized by it and thinks that more is better, even if it’s cold. Her fears include water, forests (or anywhere else that she can’t see very far), howling, thunder, and grey stallions. She isn’t a fan of being alone, though she doesn’t like to be in huge groups either since she’s used to it being just her and her mom.
History ::Zara’s mother was a dun, a Kiger mustang stolen from a neighboring herd, which made her different from the rest of her herd. To make matters worse the foolish mare eloped with a red dun bachelor stallion from her own breed. She gave birth to Zara in the middle of spring blizzard and her secret was revealed, for the herd stallion was a grey Shire cross and the little filly looked nothing like him or his other foals. From that moment on Zara and her dam were living targets. For five long months the pair was the herd’s punching bag. The stallion constantly tore her dam’s coat and bruised her own, while allowing the other mares and foals to bully them. Under the constant harassment, Zara’s mother grew weak and the filly grew skinny from the lack of milk. Desperate the pair made a run for it, though the stallion caught on quickly. For punishment the stallion attacked the pair, leaving Zara’s dam with wounds that would kill her and Zara with a large wound in her right flank that would leave her hobbling for a long while. However the fight had one good outcome, the pair managed to slip away, and though her dam died only a week later the filly was set free and now searches for a new home.
RP Sample ::The sun shone down into the little hollow, warming the soft red fuzz that lined the little body. Pricking her ears the filly listened for a moment before rolling onto her sternum and looking around. Instead of standing up automatically, Zara laid where she was, soaking in the sun and blinking the last of sleep from her eyes. She took her time getting up, after all she had nowhere in particular to go. The exhausted filly twisted her neck so that she could lick the bloody wound on her flank. It had been nearly two weeks since the stallion had torn the gash in her muscle and a week since her mother died, but the wound still bled. For two weeks the filly had spent each day traveling as far as possible until she could no longer hobble, and the constant movement kept the wound from scabbing over. Early yesterday evening Zara had finally had enough and had collapsed in the long grass. She had fallen asleep quickly and had not awoken till now, almost sunhigh. She knew she should move on, but her leg throbbed and she was still tired, so when her wound was as clean as she could manage she laid her head back down and drifted back to sleep under the protective warmth of the sun.
